Isn’t the primary job of government to protect its citizens from jeopardy from within and without? Our government surely botched 9/11; the great danger from the outside. But possibly worse is the neglect that led to the collapse of Enron, the housing market and the Bernie Madoff debacle, to name just a few. In so many cases, our government, rather than look out for our interests, is complicit in allowing the public to be bilked, debasing our standard of living and degrading our quality of life. Th e profi ts of the insurance companies and banks, among others, take precedence over the needs of citizens.
