“I’ve never been more delighted to be completely wrong”

I sincerely apologize for impugning the integrity of Bay Currents {in the last issue]. It was unjustified and intemperate on my part. The letter was written in a pique of anger [against Mayor Bloomberg] – I wrongfully displaced my frustration and exacerbation onto you.

Given the fact that Bay Currents has been an exemplary messenger of a just, equitable and progressive world view, it was particularly unjustified. You most effectively dispelled any notion that “you sold out, Bro!”

The fact that I. Friedin’s column, “I was mugged by Bloomberg” appeared in the same issue [of the Publisher’s Notebook listing some accomplishments of Bloomberg] validates the integrity of Bay Currents.

I never accused you of silencing I. Friedin – I assumed you would do it. I was certain that his veracious, virtuous voice would be silenced in the same way that the voices of Jay Diamond, Randi Rhodes, Richard Bey, Ron Kuby Mike Malloy, Alex Bennett, et. al. disappeared from the New York mainstream media the minute they started suggesting more equitable distribution of wealth. I’ve never been more delighted to be completely wrong.

When billionaires commandeer media outlets they employ propagandists to convince the public that a 12 percent sales tax increase on the poor is just and fiscally responsible, while a 5 percent surcharge on the wealthiest 0.5 percent of Americans is confiscatory.

Bloomberg is a quintessential plutocrat. Ever increasing accumulation of vast wealth validates his existence and reaffirms his world view. {His and his fellows’] only goal is profit-maximization at the expense of Joe Main Street.

Bay Currents has always been on the side of the angels I know who the devil is.

CB 13 should be disbanded

A number of very inappropriate things were done by Community Board 13 members at the board’s Nov. 18 meeting, yet [chairwoman] Marion Cleaver did not bother to tell them that they were out of order.

Robert's Rules of Order were supplanted by schoolyard behavior. In fact, Robert's Rules of Order were not used at all.

I am asking for this Community Board 13 to not only be harshly reprimanded for their total incompetence in running a meeting, ignoring parliamentary procedure and denying the community their right to speak; but as well I am asking that they be immediately removed from their positions and a new CB be put in place. This community board MOST CERTAINLY HAS NOT REPRESENTED THEIR COMMUNITY BUT INSTEAD HAS REPRESENTED THE BOROUGH PRESIDENT. They insist they are an advisory board only but do not advise what the community is asking for.

Be so kind as to withhold my name as retaliation by the CB is possible. Thank you.

The future is now for Coney!

It doesn’t get better than this. Where else can you take a walk on the boardwalk and see the Coney Island Aquarium, Deno’s Wonder Wheel, Coney Island Cyclone, Key Span Park, all the while eating a hot dog from Nathan’s and visiting the Coney Island Museum? Then there’s the Mermaid Parade, Coney Island Arcades, Coney Island History Project, and Abe Stark Ice Skating Rink. I consider myself the greatest fan of Coney Island. I was even once called the “King of Coney Island.”

Contrary to what some vocal critics would have you believe, many people welcome the revitalization of Coney. I can see it now -- Coney Island Amusement area open 12 months a year. Children and families lining up to go into the new indoor Water Park, visiting the expanded Coney Island Aquarium, and going to the movies and dinner at night. I don’t have a crystal ball, but I can also see a new gymnasium for P.S. 188 and a YMCA Community Center being built.

Coney Island is the place to be and the future is just ahead.

I’ll see you on the boardwalk!

Scott Krivitsk
Fourth grade teacher at P.S. 188 in Coney Island.
